Fire Door Safety Week 2019

06 September 2019

Further growth in support is predicted for this year's Fire Door Safety Week, which runs from 23 to 29 September and celebrates its seventh year in 2019.

Organised by the British Woodworking Federation, it is designed to raise awareness of the importance of fire doors and use of best safety practice.

This year's focus is on the critical role fire doors play in protecting facilities during the night, particularly in settings such as specialised housing and those in multiple occupation and communal properties.

In preparation for Fire Door Safety Week, research has been conducted among care home workers around fire safety and lack of clarity on the importance of fire doors in care facilities.

Support for the initiative has been pledged by the National Fire Safety campaign, run by the Home Office, the National Fire Chief's Council and London Fire Brigade, among others.

One of the initiatives introduced this year is an interactive mock criminal trial, which is intended to provide an insight for those involved in the manufacture, specifying and installation of fire safety products to see where they may be liable in the event of a fire incident.

British Woodworking Federation chief executive Helen Hewitt said: "We encourage individuals and organisations to get involved this year, share our free resources and run their own publicity campaigns and events to support the campaign's vitally important messages."
