PFM AWARDS: Meet the finalists in Partners in Corporate

27 July 2015

There are six finalists in three partnerships in this year's Partners in Corporate category. These include Mitie with Channel 4; 14forty with DLA Piper; and Sodexo with AstaZeneca

Channel 4 and Mitie

Mitie with Channel 4
Channel 4 is a publicly-owned, commercially-funded public service broadcaster. Mitie’s relationship with the Channel began in 2007, delivering front-of-house services through its client services business. The partnership has developed to include cleaning, security post-room, engineering, pest control, waste and support services. Throughout the term of the Mitie Client Services  contract at Channel 4, there’s been a clear objective of aligning the service offering to Channel 4’s business objectives, ensuring a strong team culture has been created that supports Channel 4 and brings its values – ‘curious’, ‘cheeky’, ‘fearless’ and ‘with heart’ – to life as a central part of delivery. The partnership has been built through trust, openness and clear communication, along with a true understanding of one another’s culture and values. Jane Lemon, supplier relationship manager, works closely with Ravi Bhatnagar, account director, and the team, and has said how closely the cultures of Mitie and Channel 4 have become intertwined. In 2014, she remarked, “Mitie works in many highly corporate organisations, where front-of-house teams are immaculately presented. At Channel 4, we need something different, and Mitie has been chameleon-like, adopting our culture, values and ethos to create a one-team approach…We’re all unique, and in media, you have to be super flexible; regimented approaches don’t work. Mitie has got this right.”

14forty and DLA Piper

14forty with DLA Piper
DLA Piper provides full based legal advice based from seven major cities around the UK, occupying over 490,000 square feet of prime location office space. In 2010 the properties and FM and procurement teams re-engineered the FM service structure by rationalising the supplier base to deliver a more consistent level of service across the different DLA Piper locations. In 2012 Compass was awarded the contract for contract and cleaning services, while four other suppliers were awarded other facilities related contracts, reducing the number of contracts from more than 70 to five. During the first six months of the contract the Compass management structure was assessed following feedback from DLA Piper as to the challenges with the matrix structure. An integrated model was put in place with a single management structure and centralised helpdesk and management information headed by the newly formed integrated services brand. DLA Piper and 14forty are now working towards establishing the UK Living Wage as part of the employee engagement and welfare initiative that have been introduced into the contract. Both partners have a mutual understanding of each other’s business needs and challenges and work closely together to implement improvement into the contract.

Sodexo with AstraZeneca
Sodexo has provided food and soft services at AstraZeneca sites across the UK since May 2008. In 2012, Sodexo was awarded the contract to provide IFM services to all AstraZeneca sites in the UK, as well as deliver soft services to six of its sites in Sweden and the Nordic states. The overall contract is worth in excess of £25m and is just a part of Sodexo's extensive global portfolio with AstraZeneca. Through working with its pharmaceutical clients, Sodexo has built up expertise in the pharmaceutical sector and its value as a strategic partner is being recognised. Now, more than 500 dedicated Sodexo employees deliver services to over 11,000 customers. AstraZeneca’s UK operations have been fundamental to the innovation and success of its scientific research and medicine development. The pharmaceuticals company carries out research and develops new medicines to make a ‘meaningful difference to patients’ lives’ - a commitment which aligns to Sodexo’s own values of making a meaningful difference to the quality of life of those we serve. AstraZeneca works across seven sites in the UK which have a varied and broad range of operations, including research and development, manufacturing and supply.
