Winter warm up for London’s busiest airport

26 January 2015

Serving over 180 destinations in 85 different countries, the UK’s busiest airport prides itself on excellent customer service and employee satisfaction. Engineers and staff working on maintenance jobs around the airport are exposed to all that British weather has to offer, especially through the colder winter months.

This year, temperature control specialist, ICS Cool Energy, provided a temporary heating solution for four months to combat the cold ambient conditions and ensure staff could work at comfortable temperatures.

Russ Baker, Sales Director at ICS Cool Energy, explains: “Our engineers installed a rental package comprising eight 300kW Oil Fired Boilers, which were each individually paired with a powerful 300kW Air Handling Unit to four closed structure hangars which needed comfort heating.

“Due to the vast open space in each hangar, we recommended placing two boilers and two air handling units on each side of the hangar, in order to heat as much of the area as possible. The seasonal boiler package guaranteed that the hangars could be warmed up to 22°C, a comfortable temperature for the dedicated engineering and service personnel on site.”

ICS Cool Energy’s rental solution ensures that site operations can continue effectively throughout the winter months. The warmer environment also provides an ability to de-ice the aircraft engines where blades could otherwise freeze over. All ICS Cool Energy boilers ensure the airport complies with standard working temperature conditions as dictated by EU legislation.
