The three finalists in the Facilities Technology in the 2014 PFM Awards are ISS with Barclays; iSite with Nationwide; and Sodexo with Trade Interchange

iSite with Nationwide

ISS with Barclays
Created by in-house experts at ISS for Barclays, ISS developed Insight@ISS, a global data visualisation application that provides fast analytical and rapid fire business intelligence through an interactive web-based visual platform. It draws information from multiple sources to provide realtime data analysis on service delivery. With an aggressive time-to-market focus, the system was developed during mobilisation and was deployed from day one, reporting realtime management information on all aspects of the contract that could then be reviewed and analysed by Barclays and ISS from any part of the world. A web-based interface brings all activity across the portfolio’s complex and vast territory to one central point at the touch of a screen, allowing the authorised user to drill down into the performance in the most granular detail. The performance of a complex FM operation has been made easier, it is said, to track through the delivery of Insight@ISS. It meets the challenges of providing an agile, consistent approach to performance management and process reviews across a dispersed, diverse operating environment. The system has been instrumental in delivering good quality data analysis and enabling significant time and resource savings and better overall management and service delivery, according to both parties. “As countries have gone live across the world, I can see it happening on my iPad,” says Wendy Cuthbert, global head of FM at Barclays Bank.

iSite with Nationwide
A fundamental change in a long-standing traditional business model at Nationwide required a new approach to information management and a level of innovation previously unavailable.  The solution needed to be innovative, simple and affordable. Data would need to be shared with the supply chain so they could review and improve their operations and it would need to be fed directly from the suppliers own operational systems. Only in this manner could it be considered as trusted data. The system would need to be cloud-based and utilise standard web technology but equally it would store a vast amount of strategic business data, so would have to be extremely secure. It would need to be flexible enough to add information sets or change suppliers regularly and it would need to interface to the existing company extranet. The success of the Nationwide HUB from iSite extends to a 17% recurring saving on total property operating costs (7% higher than the initial brief). Several hundred thousand pounds in license saving as well as unquantifiable savings in better utilisation of staff and decision-making based on reliable, updated data and reports. The solution has empowered the outsource model for Nationwide as well as a significant rationalisation of their supply chain, 80% of work is now done with 10 suppliers. It enables them to work with these suppliers to drive out continuous improvements and savings by negotiation rather than by demand.

Sodexo with Trade Interchange
Sodexo says it recognises the four key challenges service providers face in managing their supply base (risk to brand, lack of visibility, information silos, and administration – can be a burden simply through the sheer quantity of documentation), as well as the need for an approach that goes beyond the manual compilation of data and a dependence on human intervention. For this reason it worked closely with Trade Interchange to develop a supplier information management or ‘SIM’ solution that would enable our suppliers to connect with us through an online tool. This type of approach is widely adopted in other sectors but is less common in FM where it has great potential to reduce risk, improve efficiency and save money. Sodexo’s suppliers now benefit from a simple interface that makes it easy for them to provide all the information required. The centralised system avoids duplication where a supplier works across several Sodexo client sites. They can also download key Sodexo documents such as our Supplier Code of Conduct and respond immediately. The system is in constant development. Trade Interchange is currently working on a web-interface to enable those without direct “administrative” access to the tool to view information and to trigger the onboarding process. Other developments in the pipeline include a site-based supplier search.
