NG Bailey scores highly on recognised ‘responsibility’ index

31 March 2014

Business in The Community (BiTC), a membership organisation for companies committed to doing business responsibly, has launched the result of its annual ‘Corporate Responsibility Index’.

The Index, which is completed by hundreds of the UK’s leading companies including Marks and Spencer, Anglian Water and BSkyB, helps business systematically measure, manage and integrate responsible business practice into their mainstream business operations.
This is NG Bailey’s second year of completing the Index, which sees the business increase its score to 83% - a 10% increase on its 2013 submission.

This has been achieved thanks to the launch of One Approach, its new five-year sustainability strategy and some notable responsible business achievements over the last year. These include maintaining our excellent health & safety record, attaining Investors in Diversity status – one of only a few in the industry to do so and successfully achieving our Target 2012 goals.

The achievement is particularly impressive given that each year the Index gets tougher and in 2014 average scores for all participants fell by 5% compared to the previous year.

Cal Bailey, the company’s sustainability director, comments on the news: “We have worked very hard since 2008 to make sure we operate responsibly.  With the launch of our most recent five-year sustainability strategy, One Approach, we are seeking a responsible approach in all dimensions of our business.

“Our people, our customers, our suppliers, the communities in which we work, our environment, and our continuing focus on driving up safety standards are all key focus areas, which is why we have pledged to achieve 18 commitments across all of these areas by 2018.”

CEO, David Hurcomb, adds: “NG Bailey is very well recognised for its commitment to sustainability and this news is testament to our industry leading position. I am delighted with our score and hope that we continue to better it each year.”
