Temporary cooling solution saves the day for new student influx

02 December 2013

A university in the north of England brought in ICS Cool Energy to advise on a temporary solution when, following a busy summer, the university needed to resolve temperature control issues as the HVAC unit in its central student hub was beyond economic repair

With its new student influx due to arrive, and awaiting capital approval for a new HVAC unit, a temporary system was vital.  ICS Cool Energy’s Hire Division installed a 135kW TAEevo 602 chiller to get the university’s system back up and running.

Russell Wilson, Director at ICS Cool Energy explains: “Our engineers positioned the unit in a plant area next to the redundant unit and connected the chiller to the site’s existing air distribution network to ensure a fast solution with minimal disruption. We fully adapted the chiller to suit the system, balancing flow and utilising the existing pumps as well as hard wiring the system in anticipation of a long term rental solution.

“Since the installation, the HVAC cooling to the student hub has been restored and running fault-free ever since. The process has worked so well that we have since agreed contingency cover for the university’s remaining HVAC and process chillers, ensuring that a students’ first impression is not only positive but lasting.”
