Showcase of workplace and workforce innovation includes visits, convention and fringe events

This year’s Workplace Week, in Aid Of Children In Need, will run from 4-8 November. It is described as a showcase of workplace and workforce innovation, featuring visits to fascinating workplaces, a one-day convention and a fringe programme.

The workplace visits programme includes some destinations from last year such as the BBC’s New Broadcasting House in central London and Media City at Salford Quays; KPMG at Canary Wharf; and Fruit Towers, home of Innocent Drinks, as well as new venues, including Network Rail in Milton Keynes.

More than 10 organisations, in London and beyond, will open their doors to host 90 minute visits showcasing workplace innovation in action.

On Tuesday 5 November, PricewaterhouseCoopers will host the Workplace Week Convention at their sustainable building near Tower Bridge. The Convention theme this year is ‘Driving productivity through the connected workforce’.

The 2013 Workplace Convention follows last year’s event held at the offices of Microsoft in Victoria. Speakers will explore the concept of the connected organisation, looking at its implications for leadership, infrastructure and professional productivity. Together with the delegates the speakers will seek to answer these questions:

What is a connected organisation, how different is it to today and how will you know when you’ve got one?
What can COOs, human resources, real estate, facilities and IT leaders do right now to make sure their organisations make the vital transition to the connected organisation?
What does productivity look like in the knowledge based connected organisation and how should we holistically measure and manage it?
What is the new workplace infrastructure to support people in delivering their best performance every day and what are the challenges in transitioning to it?
How do we secure the energy enthusiasm and effectiveness of the best talent in the market and how does happiness and engagement play its part?

Curtis McLean, founder of Innovation Places, explains how to measure the effectiveness of the network as an aid to designing the connected workplace.Liz Nottingham, Regional HR Director for Western Europe at Starcom MediaVest group, shares her views on securing and inspiring talent in the connected organisation.

Keith Saxton, Director of Financial Services at IBM Research, spells out what the future connected bank will look like and the radical implications for the sector.Jess Pryce-Jones, founder of the I-Opener Institute in Oxford, explains the vital link between happiness, productivity and professional performance.

Other speakers include Phil Jones, CEO at Brother UK; Mark Sherfield, COO of global accountants BDO and Andrew Mawson, MD and a founding Director of consultants AWA.

Fringe events
As well as the core activities, this year’s Workplace Week will include events and fundraising initiatives organised by other organisations with an interest in the workplace. Both Workplace Law and KPMG will be hosting Fringe sessions and more participants will be announced over coming months.

Workplace Week is organised by Advanced Workplace Associates and supported by CoreNet Global, BCS and BIFM.

All proceeds will go to the Children in Need Charity. Last year’s event raised £10,000. The target for this year is £15,000.
