Sponsored: UPSL’s Enterprise UPS range awarded

27 June 2013

Uninterruptible Power Supplies’s range of 'highly efficient, modular and scalable UPS systems', designed for data centre applications, has been recognised by the Government’s Energy Technology List (ETL) for Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECA)

After being awarded inclusion for its PowerWAVE 6000, 8000 and 9000 UPS products, UPSL, a Kohler company, is now uniquely placed to assist customers in finding tailored solution for their specific requirements, whilst also reducing the impact of capital expenditure and on-going operating costs, as well as enabling increased efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint.

UPSL, recognised as a provider of power protection product and service solutions, revealed the list of UPS systems that have now been included on the ETL, which is operated and managed by the UK’s Carbon Trust.

The ECA Scheme for Energy Saving Technologies was created to encourage environmentally proactive businesses to invest in approved plant or machinery equipment that has been designed with energy efficiency in mind. In real terms, inclusion in the scheme means businesses investing in the latest PowerWAVE UPS can offset the entire cost of the equipment against taxable profits, therefore potentially reducing the organisation's tax bill by 23% of the equipment cost.

David Renton, MD for UPSL commented: “The inclusion of all our enterprise level UPS products is a clear demonstration of our continued focus to design the most efficient and flexible UPS systems on the market. Customers now have the chance to dramatically increase the efficiency of their power protection system by purchasing a PowerWAVE UPS. This will not only reduce the organisation’s carbon footprint and opex through higher levels of operating efficiency, but willalso enable up to 100 per cent of the ECA-qualifying UPS project cost to be offset against tax within the year of purchase.”

After pioneering the use of transformerless technology, the PowerWAVE range of three-phase true ‘modular’ and standalone transformerless UPS solutions are today recognised for being at the forefront of power protection innovation and technology and are class-leading in terms of system reliability efficiency, availability, scalability and flexibility – using less energy, generating less CO2, saving valuable floor space and achieving significant total cost of ownership savings - making them ideal for data centre applications.

In addition, UPSL is able to add a comprehensive range of standby diesel generators and other complimentary ancillary products such as batteries, switchgear and power conditioning equipment to provide a complete, fully matched power protection solution for data centre applications to ensure a true, no-break supply in the event of a power failure.

UPSL also offers the most comprehensive and cost-effective service available - ensuring the UPS, generator, batteries and other complimentary products are expertly maintained on a regular basis and are always ready and able to support the critical load.
The enterprise level solutions included are:

? PowerWAVE 6000 (60 – 500kVA)
• Capacities from 60kVA to 500kVA three-phase
• Parallelable up to 5MVA
• High operating efficiency - up to 96%
• Transformerless technology
• Small footprint – power density up to 363kW/m2 dramatically reduces the overall footprint of the UPS saving valuable floor space
• Integral batteries (up to 100 kVA) for improved battery protection
• Near unity power factor at partial and full loads (PF=0.99 @ 100% load)
• Low input harmonic distortion (THDi=3.5%)

? PowerWAVE 8000 (10 – 200kVA)
• Capacities from 10kVA to 200kVA in 10KVA or 20kVA modular steps
• N+1 Redundancy (up to 180kVA)
• DPA ensures exceptional reliability, availability and maximum uptime
• 'Six-nines' (99.9999%) availability
• 'Hot-Swap’ modularity provides total flexibility ensuring the UPS can be ‘rightsized’
• High operating efficiency across a wide load range (94.5% to 95.5% efficiency from 25% partial load to 100% full load)
• Small footprint – only 0.42m2 at 200kVA (180kVAN+1) delivering a power density of up to 472kW/m2
• Low input harmonic distortion (THDi<3%)

? PowerWAVE 9000 (10 – 250kVA)
• Up to 250kVA (200kVAN+1) is a single frame
• Parallelable up to 1MVAN+1
• Decentralised Parallel Architecture (DPA™) assures exceptional availability and maximum uptime through critical component and circuitry duplication
• ‘Six nines’ (99.9999%) availability
• ‘Hot-Swap’ modularity provides total flexibility
• High operating efficiency across a wide load range (95% to 96% efficiency from 25% partial load to 100% full load)
• Small footprint – only 0.43m2 at 250kVA (200kVAN+1) delivering a power density of up to 342kW/m2
