Aramark 'tops again for health and safety'

21 May 2013

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has placed Aramark top in its sector for health and safety for the second year running

The company has again won the Hotel and Catering Industry Sector category in RoSPA’s Occupational Health and Safety Awards. The accolade recognises Aramark's approach to the prevention of accidents and ill health, and places it above all other catering companies or hotel businesses which entered.

In coming to their decision, judges looked at factors including risk management, evidence of improvement in health and safety performance, days without Lost Time Incidents, and the management and promotion of health and safety among contractors and the wider supply chain.

Gary Warren, Director – Health & Safety at Aramark, said: “Quite rightly, our clients, employees and customers expect a ‘no compromise’ approach to health and safety. In food service, it’s all important. So we’re thrilled to have been placed ahead of all other companies in our sector by RoSPA, one of the country’s most respected safety charities.

“My sincere thanks go out to Aramark teams across the country who pay such close attention to health and safety management and make an achievement like this possible.”

Last month, Aramark was also presented with a ‘Gold’ award from RoSPA for its approach to safety during a major London-based project in 2012.

Dating back 57 years, the RoSPA Awards scheme is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK. It recognises commitment to accident and ill health prevention and is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas. The scheme not only looks at accident records, but also entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. Aramark has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award.”
