Willmott Dixon’s deal for £40m Greenwich Millennium Village

19 April 2013

Willmott Dixon has taken its secured order book for new housing in 2013 to £160 million after agreeing a £40 million contract for the next phase of Greenwich Millennium Village, a Taylor Wimpey Central London and Countryside Properties joint venture project.

Willmott Dixon will build 206 homes on the Greenwich Peninsular mixed-tenure housing scheme that will be available for private sale and shared ownership. Designed by architects Jestico + Whiles, Greenwich Millennium Village is a collection of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments being developed over several phases close to the Greenwich Yacht Club, The O2 and Canary Wharf.

Charlie Scherer, chief operating officer for Willmott Dixon’s housing company said: “We’re delighted Taylor Wimpey Central London and Countryside Properties have chosen us to build the next major phase of this fantastic development in Greenwich. Our expertise in building homes for all types of tenures will ensure the successful delivery of this key phase in the on-going transformation of the Greenwich Peninsular.”

“Greenwich Millennium Village will soon be home to thousands of people, creating a vibrant community in a great location.”

Construction of this phase is scheduled to conclude in spring 2015, with Taylor Wimpey Central London and Countryside Properties aiming to develop up to 1,800 homes at the Greenwich Millennium Village over the next 15 years, which will be a major boost for jobs and growth in the construction industry.

This latest deal follows three other regeneration programmes that Willmott Dixon has secured in London this year. The company has started work on the last stage of the Church End estate regeneration in Neasden, the ten-year Aberfeldy Village regeneration in Tower Hamlets and the Brentford Lock West regeneration next to Grand Union Canal. Together with Greenwich Millennium Village and a new care home village in Ascot, Willmott Dixon has booked new housing orders worth £160 million since the start of 2013.

The Greenwich Millennium Village marketing suite and show apartment is now open on the Village Square, which is the hub of the development and already includes a commercial centre with shops and a cafe.
