SPONSORED: Fasset celebrates gold RoSPA award for occupational health & safety

17 April 2013

Fasset had its approach to occupational safety and health recognised in an awards scheme run by the safety charity, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The ‘Gold Award’ in the RoSPA ‘Occupational Health and Safety Awards’ 2013 will be presented to Fasset’s dedicated Health & Safety Advisor, Adrian Slater, in a ceremony at Birmingham’s Hilton Metropole in May.

Fasset’s commitment to exemplary health & safety has always been a priority for the company who has managed the 40-acre business park for over 10 years. The RoSPA accolade recognises Fasset’s proactive approach and follows the recent recertification for the British Standards Institute (BSI) BS OHSAS 18001. The company were able to demonstrate an exceptionally low accident rate, structured induction and tailored training programme; and dedicated NEBOSH qualified professional resource.

The RoSPA Awards scheme is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK, recognising a commitment to accident and ill health prevention. The scheme not only looks at accident records, but also entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Fasset’s Business Excellence Manager, Shirley Cuthbertson was delighted to receive the news: “The team at Fasset has developed stringent site safety regulations and audits which have delivered exceptional results as illustrated by our recent certifications. Fasset’s professionalism, expertise and commitment to occupational health and safety, continues to drive a real focus in this area throughout our business; and we are delighted not just to be recognised for our achievements by RoSPA, but to receive a Gold Award.”

Examples of the Fasset initiatives that supported the Award submission include:
* Fasset conducted a survey to assess attitudes and awareness of occupational health and safety, in order to set realistic performance indicators.
* Improved reporting of ‘adverse events’ resulting in an increase in concerns raised and decrease in resultant accidents.
* Strengthened partnership between occupational health, and health and safety.
* Improved communications and knowledge sharing across the 40+ businesses based at the multi-tenanted business park.

David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. Fasset Langstone Technology Park has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award.”

The majority of awards that RoSPA presents are non-competitive, marking achievement at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Organisations maintaining high standards can win gold medals, president’s awards and orders of distinction. The headline sponsor for the RoSPA Awards 2013 is NEBOSH (the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health).
