HMS Belfast opens a new riverside cafe bar

05 April 2013

The new Cafe Bar at HMS Belfast opens its doors to the public this week in time for the Easter Holidays

Located at the main entrance to HMS Belfast on the riverside, visitors will be able to enjoy the views of the City of London whilst dining on a selection of cafe food and beverages.

With a striking new look entrance, the new entrance offers an exciting new retail space and ground floor Cafe Bar that can seat up to 24 diners and is available for private hire. The Cafe’s contemporary design and modern menu focusing on seasonal dishes and local produce, offers something for everyone.

Open Monday-Sunday from 8am–10pm visitors can enjoy a cup of freshly brewed Grand Cru coffee such as the Juana Mamani Organic from Bolivia or the Sandona from Colombia accompanied by a variety of pastries and cakes.

Further dishes on the menu include ‘Board specials’ such as a cheese board of British cheeses from Paxton & Whitfield, a Meat Board with a selection of European cured meats, HMS Belfast pickles and artisan breads and a Fish board of Formans London cured salmon, gin gravadlax and Brixham crab sandwich.

The Cafe Bar will offer visitors the option of take away coffees or teas and with a license until 10pm diners can enjoy an after work beverage with a selection of white, red and rose wines as well as Cafe nibbles.

Will Sales, General Manager for HMS Belfast commented: “The redevelopment of the new entrance is one of a number of long-term improvements being made to the ship. This is an exciting year for HMS Belfast with not only the opening of this fantastic new Cafe Bar but we have the launch of the Upper Deck later in the spring too – a busy time ahead for us all!”

In late spring HMS Belfast will launch the Upper Deck - a destination bar with spectacular views of HMS Belfast and surrounding London landmarks, including Tower Bridge, the Tower of London and City Hall. Inspired directly by the maritime architecture and rich detail found on board HMS Belfast, the new roof bar overlooking the ship and Tower Bridge is set to become a social destination.

HMS Belfast, is now permanently moored between London Bridge and Tower Bridge. She is the only surviving example of big gun armoured war ships built for the Royal Navy in the first half of the twentieth century and played a crucial role in protecting the arctic convoys and supporting the D-Day landings during the Second World War.

Today, HMS Belfast, part of Imperial War Museums, is open daily. Visitors can explore the nine decks discovering the stories of life on board.
