ABB Ltd wins EEF Green and Growth Award 2012

19 February 2013

ABB Ltd, a leader in power and automation technologies, is a national winner in the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards 2012.

The company won the EEF National Green and Growth Award 2012. ABB became eligible for the National award following its success in winning the EEF North West Region Green and Growth Award in November.

The award recognises ABB’s technical ingenuity in persuading customers to adopt energy saving measures for motor-driven processes, developing an energy appraisal and savings illustration app that could help them reduce their carbon footprint and cut electricity bills.

The company's Energy Efficiency Plan was developed to overcome market reluctance to try variable-speed drives, which can reduce the energy used by motors by 20 percent on average. The energy appraisal determines the energy saving and CO2 emission reduction potential of a site in just half a day.

Neil Ritchie of ABB says: “Winning this award is recognition of our efforts to use innovative techniques to persuade companies that they can grow while staying green. With an energy appraisal, companies will see the significant savings they could be making by using our variable-speed drives and high efficiency electric motors.”

The annual business awards are hosted by EEF, the UK manufacturers’ organisation, and recognise excellence in enterprise, innovation, environmental performance and skills development among UK manufacturers. The Green and Growth Award was presented by sponsor ENER-G.

ABB (www.abb.com ) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 145,000 people.
