System Hygienics launches Fire Damper Remedial service

25 January 2013

System Hygienics is now offering businesses a full-service solution for fire damper compliance and safety with the launch of its Fire Damper Remedial service

Traditionally System Hygienics has provided fire damper testing and maintenance in addition to its ventilation duct cleaning service. The company has now introduced a Fire Damper Remedial service as an extension to its Fire Damper Testing and Maintenance service. The new service provides the means to rectify any problems highlighted during the testing and maintenance of fire dampers, helping companies to comply with their statutory fire safety obligations and to keep personnel safe.

Steve Liddiard, Managing Director of System Hygienics, said: “It gives a one-stop-shop to resolve problems that are raised during testing and inspection of fire dampers, providing the client with a solution to their problems and avoiding them having to find another contractor. It also provides peace of mind that when finished their system will be compliant.

“Compliance and safety are the main reasons for ensuring fire dampers are operating correctly. For some time we have wanted to provide a fire damper remedial service to ensure that our clients acted on the advice we gave. Failing to do so would mean the client is left in the position of having fire dampers installed on their job which are either not accessible, do not operate or do not exist through firewalls, all of which will not comply with the British Standard 9999 or the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

All of this would leave them vulnerable in terms of safety and compliance and could affect insurance cover or premiums. For us to offer a fire damper remedial service was a natural progression given our expertise.”

The Fire Dampers Remedial service offers a variety of solutions, including the replacement of faulty fusible links, replacement of faulty spring mechanisms and replacement of faulty fire dampers with new ones. System Hygienics also install new fire dampers where there has been a change in fire strategy from the original installation, either due to a refurbishment or where new ductwork has been added.

Access to fire dampers is also essential, so the installation of new access doors is included where they didnot exist before, were too small or needed relocating. Ductwork alterations can also be undertaken where necessary to accommodate new fire damper installations or where the access to the fire damper needs to be altered.
