Causeway FM Facts goes to college

South Thames College in London has selected Causeway’s FM Facts software to streamline many of its core facilities management activities.

South Thames College provides facilities for over 21,000 students over four London-based campuses. Having previously managed their maintenance tasks using complicated hand-written lists of jobs, the College began to evaluate facilities management software solutions to handle the burden of the work. After completing a full tender with a variety of companies, they concluded that Causeway FM Facts was the best solution for them.

Not only was Causeway FM Facts customer-focused and capable of providing useful and informative reports, it could also be set up for use by different Facilities Managers in different campuses.

Operations and Environment Officer for South Thames College, Madelein du Toit, commented: “It has been a steep learning curve, but everybody seems to have taken very well to the new help desk. We do a lot of cross site work, so our staff members enjoy that they can log jobs through the intranet wherever they are by just clicking an icon, without having to send an email or pick up a phone.

“What’s more, the jobs can’t be deleted; we have a fully auditable trail of building inspections and maintenance work logged on the helpdesk, which is invaluable for insurance and Health and Safety procedures.

“The PDA module has been especially useful so far, as it allows our Facilities Officers to raise and receive jobs whilst they are out and about, so they don’t have to be desk-based. The reporting side of FM Facts is also brilliant and allows us to spot particular faults in particular areas that require maintenance.”

South Thames College is hoping to expand the FM Facts solution in the near future, to include the Asset Management module. This will ensure they can keep all asset information and schedules in their central Helpdesk, rather than relying on a variety of different help desks used by their M&E contractors.

What’s more, they now have the reporting capability to make businesses cases for updates to the facilities systems. By clearly showing the amount of time they are saving and extra jobs their Facilities Officers can get done, they can provide a clear case for investing further in facilities management technology.

“We would certainly recommend Causeway FM Facts to other colleges and companies and are very keen to get them involved,” Madelein du Toit concluded.
