82% of FMs focus on sustainability

20 June 2012

In a recent survey Planon Software found that 82% of respondents cited sustainability as a key focus for them over the next 12 months.

Tim Clapham, marketing director at Planon, said: “We were not at all surprised by the findings of our survey. For modern businesses, sustainability holds the key to cutting energy costs, becoming more environmentally friendly and meeting increasingly stringent regulations. People are becoming more aware that efficient facilities management can provide an effective way to meet all of these requirements and, as such, many businesses are looking to focus on this.”

To help on the journey towards sustainability, Planon recommends that a formula of “measure, monitor and act” should be implemented in order to achieve a number of important business benefits, which include both cost reduction and compliance. Measuring consumption allows businesses to see exactly what energy is being used and where. Once this has been identified, monitoring this usage will enable the business to determine when consumption is at its highest, and where it’s most concentrated.

Tim Clapham continued:” FM tools are capable of delivering a number of important benefits, but companies will need to understand and embrace these solutions in order to support their commitment to greater sustainability in the months and years ahead.”
