First in legionella testing

20 June 2012

Assurity Consulting has become the first organisation in the UK to combine UKAS accreditations for legionella risk assessment to BS 8580:2010 with water sampling, transportation and testing for legionella.

Greg Davies, Head of Service Development, Assurity Consulting states, “We have held ISO 17025 (sampling, transportation and testing) accreditation for many years, and to complement this with the recently introduced ISO 17020 (inspection) accreditation for legionella risk assessments was a natural progression. Our customers are already aware of the quality and competence of our work, and our investment in this accreditation further demonstrates to them our commitment to be a trusted partner for their compliance management needs.”

Reported cases of Legionnaires’ disease number around 300 per year in the UK, although recent articles in the press have highlighted everything from compost and windscreen washers to cooling towers and showers can present a risk. All water systems need to be risk assessed however as a first point of management, and controls implemented and monitored as required.
