Super support for London Library

13 March 2012

The new 'super library'

Inviron has been awarded the contract to provide technical services at London’s newest public ‘super-library’ in Southwark, East London.

Inviron will maintain the mechanical and electrical services, which include a comprehensive energy metering system to manage the buildings’ long-term energy profile. In addition, the team will undertake an annual energy review to proactively promote savings and highlight any trends and issues that arise.

Canada Water Library is a state-of-the-art, £14.1m building and is the first in the capital to have a 150-seat theatre. It holds 40,000 books and has a café, meeting rooms, evening class space and Wi-Fi facilities for visitors.

Paul Horsley, operations manager at Inviron, said: “This is a prestigious new building that we are really looking forward to maintaining. The excellent work that our installation team undertook on the fit-out has given us a very strong platform to work from and we will ensure the building is a comfortable and enjoyable environment for all staff and visitors.”

Cllr Veronica Ward, Cabinet member for culture, leisure, sport and the Olympics, said: "We are extremely proud of our 'state-of-the-art' library at Canada Water which has been inundated with happy customers since it opened in November last year with over 1,400 visits and over 1,000 items borrowed each day."

The 2,485m2 aluminium-clad Canada Water Library forms part of an overall regeneration scheme for the area, which will involve the creation of 2,700 new homes, retail and office space, and with leisure facilities.
