OCS Ones to Watch at London 2012

05 March 2012

With just a few months to go until the Olympic Games start in London, the pressure is on as the test events see more and more teams and individuals from around the world qualifying for the Games. OCS has a firm eye on these athletes, many of whom have been supported through its OCS Young Sports Person Awards scheme.

OCS recognises the importance of sport and how many of the skills demonstrated by young athletes can be applied to business. Chief Executive, Chris Cracknell, comments: “Training and instinct are as crucial in business as they are in sport. Determination and the ability to keep going in tough times can help athletes to excel and business leaders to manage complex situations, cope with pressure and overcome barriers.”

Past OCS Young Sport Person Awards winners currently gearing up for selection include Olympic gymnasts Beth Tweddle MBE and Louis Smith, and Youth Olympic Champion Sam Oldham. All three gymnasts await selection for the GB teams, with five places available in both the men’s and women’s groups.

OCS has also supported top Paralympic athletes, including 2011 winner Sally Brown who hopes to qualify for the T46 100m, 200m and 400m sprints. F57 Javelin and discus thrower Nathan Stephens, the 2005 overall OCS Young Sports Person Awards winner, has already surpassed the qualifying standards needed to be part of the athletics team. He awaits selection for the events, which could see him take part in the Paralympics in September.
Managing Director of OCS UK, Martin Gammon, concluded: “For the last 15 years we have been financially supporting young people in their chosen sport. To see that their drive and relentless determination has brought them to this stage in their career is something that makes us feel really proud of their achievements. Good luck to all our past winners – we will be looking out for you!”
