Dynamic technology for Bristol & Bath Science Park

21 February 2012

Saville Audio Visual has completed the installation of a comprehensive range of AV/IT and videoconferencing facilities in the first phase of the newly created Bristol & Bath Science Park.

The development provides a dynamic new hub for the region's science and technology businesses, connecting entrepreneurs, fledgling businesses and established brands with vital investors, academia and design facilities.

Forum Area
The Forum area is a large multipurpose open space designed to handle audiences of up to 600. To cope with the naturally bright environment, the AV facilities include a Christie large venue projector, set up in rear projection mode projecting on to a 3m by 1.8m screen. Audio is delivered via Q-Flex line array speakers, determined by the requirement to cater for both voice and programme sound and to cope with the nature of the space - an atrium area with three large glass surfaces. All source inputs, including multiple floor box positions and an equipment rack are distributed and controlled via a Crestron Digital Media system.

Conference Rooms
Saville equipped eight conference rooms with wall-mounted flat HD screens and a Polycom HDX videoconferencing endpoint, operated via a Crestron Digital Media input and control panel. This system also caters for single distribution within each individual room.

Three of the rooms can be opened up to create one large theatre space for up to 60 people, which also utilises SMART Interactive hardware as part of the overall system. Each screen can display the same source or show independent images, employing multi-touch control via SMART MeetingPro software. All the systems are fully automated via Crestron Digital Media for control and distribution. Crestron Roomview and Roombooking facilities are also installed for remote support, diagnostics and monitoring of the systems in real time.

Conferencing & Collaboration
The Polycom conferencing systems allow teams to enjoy collaborative work sessions from different locations. They enable people to share information, concepts and plans or discuss and brainstorm ideas on interactive whiteboards or interactive displays - either in scheduled meetings or informal break-out sessions, regardless of where they are based.

Bonnie Dean, chief executive of the Science Park, said: “This conferencing system offers a much more engaging way to connect with colleagues in different locations, resulting in more productive and collaborative sessions. It also means people don’t have to travel, which makes for a greener way of working too. We hope that people from across the area, as well as businesses based at the Park, will take full advantage of this technology.”
