Interserve is to work as an industry partner with the Defence Recovery Capability’s Defence Employment and Opportunities Team (DRC DEOT) to support the recovery pathways of wounded, injured and sick personnel.

The Defence Recovery Capability (DRC) is an MOD-led initiative, in partnership with Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion alongside other service charities and agencies, to ensure that wounded, injured and sick personnel have access to the key services and resources needed to help them either return to duty, or make a smooth transition into an appropriately-skilled civilian life.

The Defence Recovery Capability (DRC) is delivered across the Defence community by the combined efforts of the Services and the Service charities, responding to carefully-tailored Individual Recovery Plans setting out a recovery pathway. The partnership with Interserve will offer eligible personnel recovery-work placements or vocational schemes across a wide range of disciplines in the Interserve organisation, with the potential of longer-term job opportunities for those who may leave the service.

Among the key factors in engaging with Interserve as a partner organisation were the company’s wide geographical footprint and the extensive range of tasks and disciplines that it can offer; which are an excellent match to many of the existing skills of service personnel.

Major Kate Gibbs said: “Some personnel will face lengthy recovery pathways and we believe offering employment opportunities within a supportive work environment can help boost morale and improve recovery rates whilst broadening the skills of our wounded, injured and sick personnel. Interserve has been a trusted partner of the MOD for many years, delivering support services within a diverse range of military communities. In addition, the company has a proven track record of delivering a number of welfare-to-work programmes, both in the public and private sectors, including apprenticeships, projects to support the long-term unemployed and on-the-job training. Interserve was therefore able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the support that is needed for a scheme of this kind to succeed.”

The partnership began in November 2011 and will offer opportunities across a broad range of challenging roles across the entire Interserve organisation.
