WhiteOaks cater for West End

29 June 2011

A contract with Staffordshire Housing Association worth £160,000 in annual turnover has been awarded to WhiteOaks.

The three year contract, which will see WhiteOaks provide catering at the brand new West End Village in Stoke-on-Trent, marks a new move for Compass Group UK & Ireland’s care business; this is the first time that WhiteOaks, known for its work within care homes, has partnered with a housing association to provide a restaurant service for residents and for the local community.

The 100 apartment village, completed earlier this year, is home to some 130 55-and-over residents who benefit from the independence of their own home within a diverse community of older people benefiting from extensive communal facilities such as a restaurant, bar, therapy and fitness suite, hairdresser and general store. The extra care service promotes residents’ well-being and provides social opportunities for residents and on-site, 24-hour support in the event of an emergency. The village and its facilities are open to the public every weekday and are available for residents, friends and family during weekends and evenings.

Each apartment has its own fully fitted kitchen but WhiteOaks will serve home-cooked meals every day, including additional services such as a café service and a cooked brunch on Saturdays to enjoy with friends and families. Afternoon teas, special celebration days where the menu will have a themed twist and events such as barbeques will all help provide a sociable, welcoming community setting for residents and their visitors.

Steve Cenci, Managing Director of Compass Group UK & Ireland’s healthcare business, said: “Retirement villages are huge in the USA and this type of over 55s accommodation is also a growing market in the UK. Our new contract with Staffordshire Housing Association is an important new route for WhiteOaks and one which we’re excited to explore in partnership with residents at West End Village.”

Tim Sheail, Director of Housing Services for Staffordshire Housing Association, commented: “An attractive, well-priced restaurant and café service makes a really important contribution to the social life and well-being of our customers. We are delighted to be working in partnership with WhiteOaks in this new approach to providing catering services for residents and the local community.”
