ASSA ABLOY SECURITY DOORS MAKE WEST END DEBUT

12 May 2011

ASSA ABLOY Security Doors is supplying over 550 high performance steel fire doors for Quadrant 3, one of London’s most ambitious West End redevelopments.

Quadrant 3 will see the 94-year old, 1000 room Regent Palace Hotel being converted into a mix of office, retail and residential space, as part of the Crown Estate’s plans to create a new identity for Regent Street. The development from architect Dixon Jones and construction manager Sir Robert McAlpine will boast seven floors of office space, nine residential units and ground floor shops, plus an innovative energy centre.

ASSA ABLOY Security Doors is manufacturing fire doors and duct doors for installation throughout the landmark building. The fire-rated doors have been specially designed to allow for electromechanical locking systems from Abloy UK, also part of the ASSA ABLOY Group, to be retrofitted after the building handover. Abloy’s EL560 europrofile handle controlled locks will be installed in place of standard mechanical locks for integration into an access control system.

Bespoke mechanically operated smoke vent doors with remote operation have also been specially developed, as a key safety element of the building.

Commenting on the project, Brian Sofley, Sales Director for ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, said: “Quadrant 3 has some very specific project requirements, from door design to build sequencing and we are working closely with construction manager Sir Robert McAlpine to meet these demands.

“The bespoke door design has future-proofed the doors, as access control systems can be installed as and when the security requirements change, without modifying the doorsets themselves. We are also responding quickly to sequencing changes and are installing doors on specific floors in line with the contractor’s priorities. This is made possible by our close coordination with other finishing trades and our full-time on-site supervisor who monitors progress in each area.”

The Quadrant 3 development is expected to complete ahead of schedule by Christmas 2011.

ASSA ABLOY Security Doors manufactures and installs steel and timber doors in a range of performance options, including security, fire resistant, vandal resistant, acoustic and external. For further information, visit www.assaabloy.co.uk or telephone 02892 662200.
