Fluor Turner JV will support MoD in Afghanistan

20 April 2011

Turner FM has won an extension to its DMT Contract with the MoD at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan, and also announced a JV with Texas-based Fluor Corporation.

The new JV entity will be named Fluor Turner, and will address the MoD's need for infrastructure support activities in Afghanistan. Turner has supported the MoD for over 25 years on an operational basis, while Fluor has provided support to the US military in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Fluor Turner's activities will centre on the provision of services for property and FM, as well as operations.
Turner FM (Design Management Team) DMT is embedded within the UK Works Group Royal Engineers at Camp Bastion and has developed a new training facility in Camp Bastion, the main British operating base in Afghanistan. Turner FM has built considerable expertise in military operations, having worked with the MOD and RAF on several infrastructure contracts in Afghanistan and the UK. Commenting on the contract extensions, Gary Peacock, General Manager responsible for Turner FM’s operations in Afghanistan said: "We are absolutely delighted to receive this contract extension and must commend the efforts and dedication of our DMT team, who continue to work, in what can only be described as harsh and extremely difficult conditions
Fluor currently has around 18,000 staff working from 65 bases in Afghanistan, as part of the US Army's Logistics Civil Augmentation Program. The company's work in the region has predominantly involved the construction and management of operational sites, and the provision of life and combat support services.
Commenting on the formation of Fluor Turner, Turner’s MD, John Laverty, said, "We are proud of our work supporting the military in Afghanistan and are already seeing the positive results of working together with Fluor. There are many benefits to working more closely together. Fluor Turner is already demonstrating that its combined expertise can assist the MOD by managing its assets in support of the UK's forces in theatre."
