Interserve wins £960,000 University of Greenwich cleaning contract and boosts its apprenticeship programme

Interserve has won a £960,000, three-year contract to clean the University of Greenwich’s three campuses. These are at: Avery Hill, in the south-east London district of Eltham; Greenwich, in the historic London borough; and Medway, in Chatham Maritime, Kent. Interserve will provide daily cleaning, janitorial and porterage services across this 70,000 square metre estate, supporting 23,000 students and 2,000 staff on a daily basis. The estate includes sports and leisure facilities, canteens, theatres, lecture halls, libraries and common areas.
The 100 staff transferring to Interserve will benefit from Interserve’s Cleaning Apprenticeship, backed by Asset Skills, the Sector Skills Council for facilities management and cleaning. This apprenticeship has been developed and piloted by Interserve to offer employees the opportunity to develop their job-related skills.
Tony Sanders, MD - Commercial at Interserve, said, "This contract with the University of Greenwich represents an excellent opportunity for Interserve to add significant value to the university’s prestigious estate. We are also excited to be welcoming these many new staff to our business, where I am sure they will benefit from the work we have been doing in leading the development of the Cleaning Apprenticeship."
Lee Devlin, Head of Campus Services, University of Greenwich, commented, "One of the significant reasons for choosing Interserve is their commitment to reducing our impact on the environment, utilising our supply chain in this way ensures we have a sustainable and cost-efficient approach to cleaning across our campuses."
Interserve, through its RENEWABLES sustainability framework, will be providing the University of Greenwich with a green cleaning solution using energy-efficient cleaning equipment, enzyme-based cleaning chemicals and microfibre cleaning technology.
