The Caring Filing System

03 February 2011

The Rollastore mobile system design from the specialist British company Railex Projects has proved to be the system of choice for ergonomic office filing and storage needs with discerning facilities managers, and a particularly notable and ideal example is the recent installation at the London head office of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

This famous charity was founded in 1948 – appropriately the same year as the NHS – and today more than 2700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals provide dedicated attention in the community and in the nine Hospices across the UK with the largest number of hospice beds outside the NHS. The Marie Curie shops are also a familiar sight on high streets everywhere.

For Facilities Manager Jonathan Schofield his challenge was a compact and easily accessible storage system that would also be safe and secure for both the needs of the HR department as well as the permanent records of pensioned staff. Having seen the effectiveness of the Railex mobile concept in situ at a GP surgery in Greenwich Jonathan could clearly see that it would meet all of his criteria literally at the turn of a wheel. The concept consists of 10 tasteful Cobalt Blue bays of mobile and static shelving each 2144mm high x 1000mm wide x 355mm deep, and each bay is fitted with 7 levels of Duo-Shelves plus a top shelf. The total capacity is 70 linear filing metres and the overall installation is 5000mm in length. The bays simply and safely glide along tracks set in to a re - locatable floor which rests on an unobtrusive corner of the open plan interior. The neat wheels on the side of the front cabinet of each bay need just a gentle turn to open or close access to that area and at the end of the day the whole system can be locked in place. Jonathan is delighted with all of the practical benefits from the unique design “It is surprisingly light and easy to use and it’s great to have everything in one place. And because it is built in to the movable floor it means that there were no construction issues with the actual structure of the building and it could be moved at any time without much fuss. The movable shelves are also a major factor as the two main types of contents are in different formats – A4 files for Human Resources and lever arch boxes for the Pension section. It really is a superb product which i would recommend to anyone”.
