Visual verification alarms help police catch thieves

05 January 2011

With increased economic hardship comes increased crime, and vacant properties are now becoming more vulnerable to metal theft, squatting and raves. While High Court cases of squatting have trebled in the last year, raves and Christmas parties present an added concern and can result in high clean up costs.

Boiler theft alone has cost in excess of £170,000 in Sefton, with nine being stolen in just one week.

To combat this SitexOrbis has worked in partnership with landlords and other organisations including Merseyside Police to introduce a rapidly deployable cost-effective solution, Videofied alarms, which are monitored 24/7.

Videofied is a portable intruder alarm with visual verification. When the alarm is triggered a camera is activated which transmits a series of 10 second videos to the SitexOrbis Cat II BS 5979 Alarm Receiving Centre.

This has already led to successful arrests and won praise from the police for reducing false alarms and helping to identify perpetrators. One Vision Housing area voids manager Phil Renton said: “SitexOrbis showed great willingness to help resolve the problem as inexpensively and quickly as possible.”
