Global bank embrace closed and open loop contactless payment

16 December 2010

Staff and visitors at the UK offices of a global banking leader are benefitting from the convenience and simplicity of the bank’s own innovative open contactless technology, and closed contactless payment technology using the company’s global access control card.

The joint innovative solution has been developed by the bank working with cashless specialist Systopia. Staff can “load” money onto their accounts via interactive kiosks located around the building, or by using a web interface on their desktop computers. The technology underpinning the new system integrates the bank’s system with Systopia’s online Good2Go cashless payment software.

The unique system means that a total of 22,500 staff at ten sites around the country need to carry only one card for access to their building, purchasing food and drinks from the company’s delis and restaurants, it also links to 400 networked vending machines.

The roll-out follows an initial pilot study among 2,500 employees at one of the firm’s offices, where the system allows for making purchases at the staff restaurant and deli and also linking to 42 vending machines.

While the system is currently being used in-house, both companies are confident of its potential benefits for other organisations.
