Young Managers selected for FMA Award

16 September 2010

Andrew Hulbert

The shortlist of aspiring young facilities managers entering the FMA Young Manager of the Year Award has been finalised.

Laura Jordan

The finalists in the FMA Young Manager of the Year are Andrew Hulbert, Laura Jordan and Alex Reynolds. The winner will be announced at the PFM Awards on 3rd November.
ANDREW HULBERT: As a second year university student, Andrew won a placement at Rollright Facilities via the Shell STEP scheme that places students in SMEs. When he
graduated with his degree in Business Management, he accepted an offer from Rollright as Graduate Management Trainee and 18 months on he is responsible for 14 clients, 48
members of staff and a budget of nearly £2m. His journey from intern to manager has been exciting and a steep learning curve. His strength in putting costings together, seeing opportunities to deliver better service at a better price and presenting this to clients, won him a promotion after six month to Commercial Manager, his current position. Despite working in FM for only a short time, he is encouraging A level students and young graduates to consider FM as a career path.
LAURA JORDAN: The Account Manager for Amey Services at the National Physical Laboratory, Laura Jordan is responsible for the day-to-day relationship with the client, and a workforce of 87 directly employed staff. The NPL account was one of the first in
Amey to operate almost completely on a self delivery model. Laura was formerly the Operations Manager on the account and her knowledge of the client and the staff has
enabled improvements to be made. Customer complaints reduced by 54 percent, compliments have risen by 39 percent and customer satisfaction rating is up by 21 per cent over 12 months. Laura joined Amey as an accounts assistant in 2003,
and her accountancy skills have been put to good use as NPL requires the continued demonstration of value for money.
ALEX REYNOLDS: A member of Savills’ Commercial Property team since 2007, Alex Reynolds has made an impact at home and abroad. He provided support to Savills business in Holland where it manages over 30m sq ft of office and distribution property across the country on behalf of a German property fund. He led the technical team in successfully taking the portfolio into management from the incumbent agents. He continues to provide support to the team in Holland while also leading the FM role for this client in the UK in London and Birmingham. He manages hard and soft service contractors for over 4m sq ft of office and retail space in London and the SE. Alex is a
member of Savills’ National Steering Committee on development of its database, its Health & Safety Policy Group and the project team overseeing the company’s European safety compliance.
