EuroFM honours for Keith Alexander

Awards and appointments at EuroFM and IFMA Foundatation announced at EFMC 2010 in Madrid this week incuded a special award for Professor Keith Alexander

An honourable lifetime membership has been bestowed upon Professor Keith Alexander for ‘ services rendered’ to EuroFM, the organisation he helped form and nurture,  and which he chaired for 15 years. Professor Alexander received the Award from the current EuroFM Chairman, Wayne Tantrum at the Gala Dinner of the EFMC2010 conference in Madrid this week.  The citation read ‘to recognise a lifetime of achievement in and around EuroFM and in the field of facilities management.’
Professor Alexander, who was unaware that the Award was to be presented to him, was attending the 9th FM Research Symposium on 1-2 June, which ran alongside EFMC 2010 in  Eurostars Madrid Tower hotel.  He presented a plenary session for researchers entitled Integration of Core Business and FM – Research Perspectives.
Professor Alexander is a leading academic in Facilities Management in the UK and Europe, founding EuroFM initially as a network for researchers in this emerging sector. He has held Chairs of Facilities Management at Strathclyde and at Salford until 2008 where he is now a visiting professor. He founded in 1990 and is the Director of the research organisation, the Centre for Facilities Management in Salford.
Steve Ballesty, MD of property and construction consultants, Rider Levett Bucknall  has been appointed chair of the IFMA Foundation, the US based organsiation that promotes and supports scholarships, educational and research opportunities for the advancement of facility management worldwide. He replaces Ms Pat Turnbull and will be the first non-American to hold this position.  Also joining the IFMA Foundation Trustees is Peter Ankerstjerne, Group Marketing Director of ISS.  Both these appointments were announced at the EFMC 2010 Gala Dinner in Madrid this week.

One change on the EuroFM Board is that Chris Kenneally, managing director of Faceo UK, has been appointed Treasurer of EuroFM. He replaces Ole Emil Malmstrom who has undertaken these duties for a number of years.
