New Kodak i4000 Series Scanners

29 April 2010

New KODAK i4000 Series Scanners champion process-driven document capture for businesses to improve efficiency and cut costs. The i4000 Series Scanners are designed to help end-users, especially those in small-to-medium sized businesses (SMBs), cost-effectively automate document capture and management.

The new capture platform combines walk-up ease of use, one touch scanning, comprehensive software capabilities and simplified integration within new or existing document management processes to offer a complete information management solution.

The KODAK i4200 Scanner and KODAK i4600 Scanner were available for demonstration along with the new KODAK Capture Pro Software version 2.5  at CeBIT, stand E30 Hall 3 from March 2-6, 2010 in Hannover, Germany.

The i4000 Series Scanners compact, ergonomic design makes it easier for end-users to effectively integrate document capture into new and existing information-driven business processes. Kodak’s Smart Touch functionality allows digital documents to be sent to common destinations including e-mail, desktop applications, shared file locations and Microsoft SharePoint Server. The i4000 Series Scanners also provide flexible, dual-support for Kodak’s Perfect Page Image Processing Technology or Kofax VRS Software.

KODAK Capture Pro Software version 2.5 provides users Microsoft Windows 7 compatibility along with improvements to OCR capability, auto import and indexing to name a few.

Tony Barbeau, General Manager, Document Imaging, Kodak’s Business Solutions and Services Group, said, “With so many SMBs still dependent on paper documents, the easy-to-use architecture of the i4000 Series Scanners represents a strategic first-step for any business working to remain competitive in the information economy.”

The i4200 Scanner and i4600 Scanner serve as true production-level entry points able to process images of 200 dots per inch (dpi) bi-tonal scanning quality at rated speeds of 100 pages per minute (ppm) and 120 ppm respectively.

The i4000 Series is also the only scanner series in its class to offer a c-shape transport with additional straight-through paper path, 500-sheet feeder, while offering field speed and feature upgrades to adjust for growing volumes of documents and continuous enhancement of the solution.

A feature provided for the first time on a Kodak scanner is Sure Stack. This enables users to scan mixed documents at high speed while still keeping them neatly sorted in the output tray which helps to significantly improve post scanning processes.

John Cauvel from Lifetime Assistance Inc – a pilot installation – confirms, "The KODAK i4600 Scanner has proven to be an extremely easy-to-use production scanner for both experienced operators and occasional users.  It streamlines everything, even paper preparation, providing us with efficiency gains. A lot of our work entails capturing multiple page non-carbon or popularly called NCR forms. These thin multi-page documents arrive in various states of readability and processability. The scanner with its associated image enhancement and paper transport has handled these without capture errors and without the need to rescan due to misfeeds."

The KODAK i4000 Series Scanners will be available for shipping in April 2010. The i4200 Scanner will be priced at €9,995 and the i4600 Scanner will be offered at €13,995.

Kodak launches new innovations for KODAK Capture Pro Software

March 1, 2010 - Kodak continues to enhance and expand its Capture Pro Software portfolio by announcing two new releases of KODAK Capture Pro Software today that make it easier for business professionals to quickly manage scanned documents and digital files. Product availability is expected for April 2010.

KODAK Capture Pro Software, v 2.5 adds new functionality that will benefit many different types of applications for digitising paper-driven tasks such as accounts receivable, claims processing, backfile conversions and many other applications. This new release focuses on making document and data capture easier, more accurate, more efficient and affordable, and is available as a free KODAK Capture Pro Software upgrade to anyone with a valid KODAK Software Assurance Contract.

In addition, an all-new separate software product, KODAK Capture Pro Software Auto Import Edition, introduces an ideal solution for unattended monitoring and importing of document images and information into a business application, without any direct scanner attachment. This dedicated import edition performs the same powerful image processing, indexing and output functions as the existing Capture Pro Software for document scanners, regardless of the images’ original source including fax, email, multi-functional peripherals (MFPs), image repositories, specialty scanners and others.

With the new Auto Import Edition, customers can now output their imported documents in the very same way as they can output their documents captured using Capture Pro Software with dedicated document scanners. The Auto Import Edition brings consistency to customers’ overall capture operation, protects their investment in decentralised capture devices and lowers the cost of implementation.

KODAK Capture Pro Software Auto Import Edition benefits from v 2.5 features, and is available as a perpetual license from €3,950 with one-year support – no matter how many images or peripherals are dealt with.

Edward O’Meara, EAMER Business Development Manager for Solutions, Document Imaging, Kodak’s Business Solutions and Services Group, said, “KODAK Capture Pro Software helps numerous organisations implement an affordable, yet powerful capture platform to make, manage and move their critical business information. Customer input largely guided our focus on bringing new levels of accuracy and flexibility to Capture Pro Software, v 2.5 and Auto Import Edition. Kodak has responded with new image and data capture capabilities which significantly enhance indexing capabilities, software connectivity and take a critical step in extracting information from structured and unstructured information for all document management applications including the upcoming Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and SaaS solutions.”

Capture Pro Software, v 2.5 improves speed and accuracy, building upon automated features originally included in v 2.0, announced last year. New capabilities aimed at improving the versatility of importing files include auto import for existing PDF files, the ability to preserve the imported file name for indexing and more automated document separation logic.

Reducing manual data entry and increasing data integrity are key drivers behind a series of improvements including a new indexing application programming interface (API) for custom data validation and the ability to use the last entered value for manual indexing in addition to the already existing capability for automated indexing. Furthermore, enhanced optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities include customisable dictionaries, output as text, and multiple language selection for OCR output.

Establishing an audit trail is important for many companies and the expanded image stamping functionality in v2.5 now gives full control over variable and fixed data that can be digitally embedded as part of the physical image, for example to display key document metadata that may not be present on every individual page of the original document.

To make Capture Pro Software, v2.5 part of a custom workflow, the greatly enhanced capability to automatically start a custom process when output processing has been finalised gives even more options for customers to create a powerful front-end to auditing, validation or any other business process.

The all-new Auto Import Edition creates a dedicated capture platform for environments without an attached scanner. The program utilises features from Capture Pro Software to help businesses organise images and files from multiple, shared locations. These imaging capabilities run unattended, giving users automated indexing, importing and outputting content and data found in networked folders that originated from fax, e-mail, MFPs and other sources.

KODAK Service and Support provides full global coverage for software users

“Customers increasingly need capture applications that can automate those end-to-end business processes impacted by paper-based documents,” said O’Meara, “KODAK Capture Pro Software enables users to take full advantage of some of the best document imaging technology available. Businesses can invest in this application to help initiate critical business processes, meet compliance demands, and provide their workforce with rapid access to digitized information.”
