World FM Day 2010 planned for 24th June

22 April 2010

The second World FM Day will be held next month to celebrate the importance of the FM profession and focus on FMs key role in building organisational performance. BIFM plans to celebrate the event at the London Region Ball on that evening.

The World FM Day is a Global FM initiative to celebrate the importance of the FM profession. It aims at raising the FM profession profile around the globe, promoting facilities management’s ideals, not only within the profession and industry, but also among the governments and the general business community. Different FM related Associations all over the world will celebrate World FM Day, on 24 June 2010, by organizing events, such as luncheons, seminars and workshops, or by undertaking any other activity to celebrate and promote facilities management.
World FM Day objectives include:
 To draw attention to the aims, objectives and progress of the facilities management profession around the globe;
 To highlight the valuable contributions sound facilities management has made and is making to sustainable global communities; productive, safe, healthy and secure work environments; and local and global economies;
 To give worldwide coverage to the ideals of facilities management, not only within the profession and industry, but also to governments and among the general public.
Several events were held last year around the world including UK and Australia. Click here to see the World FM Day 2009 video
This year the events range from lunch debates, to twitter discussions and social events and details will be posted on the Gloabl FM website www.globalfm.org shortly.
This years' World FM Day will focus on FMs  key role in building organisational performance and the BIFM is encouraging all its groups and regions to join together and celebrate World FM Day. The BIFM head office will be joining forces and celebrating with the London Region Ball which will be taking place on the evening of 24 June at a venue yet to be confirmed. Further information will soon be available on the BIFM website.
Steve Gladwin, chairman of Global FM said: This year we are optimistic that individual Facility Managers, FM teams and FM Companies will use World FM Day as a way of promoting the strategic value that FM brings to many organisations."
FM is a critical, strategic business discipline. Organisations increasingly occupy complex buildings and use sophisticated technology for communications and control. Professional FM is needed to plan, maintain and manage these facilities. It is part of the drive to meet the higher demands of organisations and individuals. Whether as employees, customers, students or patients, people have higher expectations of their living, working and leisure environments.
Good FM can deliver flexibility, adaptability and sustainability. It can help organisations respond to cost pressures or the need for greater security. Beyond buildings, it can enable remote and peripatetic working. At its best it is a real differentiator and in the commercial sphere can provide a competitive advantage.
