Swiss Post expands into document processing

25 November 2009

Swiss Post Solutions Ltd has entered into a conditional agreement to acquire the Billing Services Division of Microgen plc, as part of strategy of expanding its capability in document processing solutions.

It is anticipated that the acquisition will complete on November 30th, 2009.
The Billing Services Division (BSD) provides multi-channel fulfilment for business to business and business to consumer organisations via print and the electronic provision of documents including invoices, credits, statements, copy invoices, chaser letters and supporting material such as proof of delivery notices. The capability to provide a managed service that processes, stores and distributes billing and related documentation perfectly complements Swiss Post Solutions core mail and document processing services offering.
The integration of the BSD into Swiss Post Solutions will provide clients with access to a Software as a Service (SaaS) e-Billing model, which provides real-time visibility of financial documents, in a fully auditable process. Clients may also choose to continue to have their financial documentation printed and distributed by Swiss Post Solutions, with the option of migrating to an electronic solution.
Commenting on the acquisition Jonathan King, CEO of Swiss Post Solutions Ltd UK & Ireland said:  "The acquisition will increase our capability and competitive edge in the delivery of innovative document solutions in the UK & Ireland. It will also complement our strategy of optimising the flow of corporate information for our clients both externally and internally."
Gerhard Schwab, Chief Executive Officer, of Swiss Post e-Business Solutions, believes that the acquisition of BSD is a natural step in the evolution of Swiss Post Solutions as an international provider of outsourced document processing services:  “This acquisition is an indication of our desire to provide our clients with a comprehensive set of services and solutions and supports our strategy of acquiring complementary technologies and services that increase our competitive advantage or our international coverage. Our clients have varying needs when it comes to managing the efficiency and effectiveness of their business processes. By evolving our services and offering a comprehensive and integrated set of services we are able to assist our clients in realising more value from their corporate information across the document lifecycle.”
