OPEX the Star of Scanners

16 November 2009

Opex has won the flagship High Volume Scanner Product of the Year award at the annual DM Awards for its acclaimed AS3690i. Held at London's St Pancras Novotel the annual DM Awards have become a must attend event for document management professionals, with online votes for this year's winners increasing by over 30%.

At a recent prestigious evening the great and the good of the document management world descended on the Hotel Novotel in London's St Pancras for the annual DM Awards 2009. In just three years these unique Awards have become the diary date for DM professionals, and an opportunity to highlight the success stories from the past year in the industry, from products and solutions through to major projects and the coveted Company of the Year award. The number of votes cast online increased by over 30% on last year, which reflects the increasing interest in the document and content technologies that are central to the focus of this sector. There were more winners than ever before at the dinner - including representatives from companies from all over Europe and the USA – and the flagship High Volume Scanner Product of the Year award went to Opex for the AS3690i.

Opex was in the company of the likes of Fujitsu,HP,Konica and Kodak - all of which underwrites the technical edge of its innovative system. The AS3690i is a high-volume production scanner with a unique drop feeder integrated into a mail extraction desk. By combining mail extraction with image capture, the AS3690i operator can open, extract, capture, identify, print an audit trail, and sort mail contents without a separate prep process. Simply load mail onto the extraction desk and drop the extracted documents onto the conveyor. The AS3690i will then capture, process, sort, and output contents and data. This eliminates the need to transport, batch prep, sort, or add separator sheets between extraction and scanning. Cheques, forms, claims, accountable mail, correspondence, and most other documents can be scanned intermixed with little or no preparation, by only one operator. Unlike most high-speed scanners, the AS3690i is able to scan a wide range of irregular, folded, and damaged media without the need for careful stacking, jogging, or repair. The AS3690i offers several advanced image enhancements as well as in-line identification of barcodes, optical character recognition (OCR), optical mark-sense recognition (OMR), magnetic ink character recognition (MICR), and document type classification. The wide MICR head provides enhanced read for business cheques.

There are three quick and convenient ways to identify documents that are difficult to classify. The operator can trigger sensors on the conveyer to activate IdAssist, tap a key on the KeyAssist module, or simply touch the display screen.Other features include a dual core PC controller with exceptional processing speed, a 17" LCD touch screen for operator controls and information, and six output sort bins.

The AS3690i’s exclusive single-pass process eliminates the additional costs associated with traditional document capture. It is simply the fastest way to go from sealed envelope to usable data. The OPEX AS3690i quickly scans a variety of mail, providing efficient workflows and superior cost savings.
