Sheffield hosts FM & Sustainability conference

29 July 2009

The Centre for Facilities Management Development (formerly FMGC) is holding its third annual conference on Thursday 10th September which this year is focusing on sustainable practices in the public sector including carbon trading, renewable energy technologies and integrated planning.

Entitled FM and Sustainability: Opportunities, Challenges and Strategies this annual Centre for Facilities Management Development Networks Conference,is now in its third year and is rapidly becoming an established event for facilities management. The 2008 event was an overwhelming success, attracting about 120 facilities management professionals, over half of whom were estates and facilities directors/assistant directors in charge of multi-million pound budgets.

This year's event which will be held at the Stodart Building, Ciity Campus, Sheffield Hall University, promises more lively debate and the latest thinking, bringing together two very pertinent areas emphasing the fundamental role that sustainability is increasingly playing in FM thinking. Sustainable practices, such as carbon trading, renewable energy technologies and integrated planning are no longer 'nice to have' options.

It is vital that facilities managers understand and embrace these measures in order to meet cost targets, stakeholder demands and legislation, and to prepare for the future. This event will help you to understand what sustainable practices entail in the context of facilities management and the opportunities open for your organisation. It will also discuss implementation strategies, and practicalities including financing and contracting.
