Largest specialist IT cleaning business formed

29 July 2009

Initial Facilities Services has combined its PROtech IT Hygiene and HItech Cleaning Solutions businesses to create the UK’s largest desktop and data cleaning services.

The interest in IT equipment cleaning services has seen a significant up turn in recent months, with businesses seeking a hygienic, healthy and safe working environment for their employees. This has resulted in several new business wins worth in excess of £110,000 and extended contracts with a number of existing customers that have requested an increase in the frequency of the cleaning service. Elsewhere, the rapidly expanding data centre sector has created a specialist cleaning requirement to safeguard critical electronic equipment and support business continuity.

The new organisation – trading as PROtech IT Hygiene, with the HItech brand continuing to be used in the data centre sector – will operate from five regional offices in Scotland, Manchester, Dudley, Orpington and London, with a workforce of more than 500 employees, to provide a full range of specialist IT-related hygiene and decontamination solutions across all areas of the UK including Northern Ireland.

Under the new structure, HItech will handle all comms, data centre and computer room cleaning, utilising a highly trained team of technicians that has been accredited through its own training academy. PROtech IT Hygiene will deliver sanitising and valeting services for desktop computers, telephones and other IT equipment, along with specialist services for bank cash machines, retail checkouts, card readers, Chip and Pin and EPOS.

George Robertson, General Manager at PROtech IT Hygiene said: “This merger represents a great opportunity to expand our service offering and extend it across a wider geographic reach, whilst benefiting from a range of business and operational synergies. It will mean we are better placed to increase our market share in growth sectors and tap into the expertise that already exists within the business.”
