University outsources more of its cleaning

08 July 2009

Principle Cleaning Services Ltd has been awarded a £2m contract at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, Hertfordshire formerly cleaned by an in-house team

Following a rigorous tender process, North London based Principle Cleaning will now be responsible for the cleaning of the vast majority of the University Estate at the De Havilland and College Lane Campus. For many years the University has been cleaned by in-house staff and it has now decided to outsource these services to improve the service levels on site. Principle Cleaning was chosen above the other bidders based for its positive approach to staff training and welfare and its proven ability to deliver high quality services.

Principle Cleaning will be applying innovations to the contract such as biometric time and attendance systems and computerised quality monitoring to enhance staff attendance and performance. This major contact commenced at the beginning in July and is for a three year term.

For a number of years, Principle Cleaning has held a contract to clean the residential building and the Prestigious Sports Village at the De’Havilland Campus, current home to the Sarecens rugby training camp. As evidence of its ability, Principle Cleaning has recently become a finalist for the prestigious Golden Service Awards for its work with Carillion and the Sports Village.

Steve Cooney, Development Director said, “This is a real achievement for everyone at Principle Cleaning and has proved that our current high quality service levels are recognised. We look forward to the new challenge and our continued partnership with the University.”

Other recent contracts
Other recent new business includes the cleaning of the European Headquarters of Google, where Principle Cleaning was brought in at very short notice to clean its prestigious offices in Victoria, London and its site in Oxford. With over 600 employees based over three floors at the office known as GooglePlex, this contract provides both day time and part time cleaning operatives and includes additional services such as window cleaning, jet washing, kitchen and cafeteria deep cleaning and carpet cleaning. It also includes the supply of consumables including cleaning products from Ecover, the world’s leading manufacturer of ecological cleaning products. Principle Cleaning has also recently taken over the office cleaning at Unison, the public service Trade Union based in London and the Almeida Theatre which seats 325 and is in the heart of Islington, North London.

“After a rigorous six month tender programme we were very pleased to award our cleaning contract to Principles Cleaning Services Ltd. Throughout the process they took the time to understand our specific issues and presented us with solutions as to how they would be managed. Most importantly they demonstrated how standards would improve but never once let their focus slip from the challenging job of effectively organising a TUPE process that involved upwards of 135 staff. I have been very impressed with the Principle approach which at all times has been proficient and professional.” Tracey Russell, Deputy Director Facilities, University of Hertfordshire.

Principle Cleaning Services Ltd was established in 1989 by the current Managing Director, Douglas Cooke and provides a high quality, sustainable and professional cleaning service to both large and medium organisations throughout London and the Home Counties
