WITHERS LLP REDUCE OVERHEADS BY £570k ($1 MILLION)

In the best of times we all want to reduce our operating costs, manage our risk better and yet at the same time, improve our service levels. Listening to how other FM’s have harnessed the key to success through their own personal experiences always brings an opportunity for you to implement more rapid and effective solutions.

Michael Priestley is Head of Building Services at the London law firm Withers LLP. He is renowned for his military background which brings organisation and discipline to his day to day running of their facilities, which is adjacent to the Old Bailey court rooms in the heart of the city of London. Michael and his team manage just under 100,000 Sq Ft of space.

"I run a tight ship confesses Michael, but we do not skimp on providing a quality and responsive facilities service to our customers. During times when everyone has to tighten their belt it is all about efficiencies claims Michael. Given the current economic climate we looked at three key areas where we could quickly make fast and substantial savings by engaging the efficiencies in the leading FM product, CAFM Explorer:-

1. By tracking our costs vs. budget in parallel to our finance team we saved over £200,000 ($350,000).

2. By operating a streamlined cost effective management team, some by 40% below benchmarked levels we saved £250,000 ($400,000).

3. By closely tracking our building management and contractor’s performance we were able to renegotiate £120,000 ($200,000) of savings from their charges.

Year on year we achieve similar reductions in our fiscal spend and this year has been no exception with over 1/2 million pounds (just under $1 million dollars) savings for a comparable minor investment."
