Guide to FM education across Europe

24 June 2009

EuroFM launched its second European FM Education Guide in Amsterdam last week detailing FM study courses in 42 colleges and universities. Five undergraduate courses are taught entirely in English (outside the UK and Eire).

First produced in 2007, the EuroFM Education Guide's second edition is expanded with more courses and more analysis of the study programmes available. The project was initiated by the Education Network Group of EuroFM, with the co-operation with Facilitec/Grupo Cador and NHTV University of Applied Sciences, Academy of FM Breda, the Netherlands. The guide provides reference for students, educators and practitioners about real estate and FM programmes of study across Europe, and for setting up international exchange groups, internships and discussion programmes for FM students.

The information which was collected for the period December 2008-May 2009, comes from 42 institutions offering 49 study programmes. The analysed data reveals that the Netherlands has by far the highest propoprtion of FM students (67%) compared to UK (8%), Germany (8%) and Lithuania (7%). There is analysis of the types of programmes of study, the length of study and teaching methods including e-learning.

With few undergraduate opportunities to study FM in the UK, this Guide shows that there are 5 programmes taught entirely in English (excluding UK and Eire) and 14 partly in English. The fully English taught courses are in Hanze University (NL), JAMK University of Applied Sciences (FIN), NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences (NL), Saxion Universities of Applied Science, Hospitality Business School (NL) and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania).

A total of 11 institutions (including UK and Eire) offer Masters courses taught in English.
