Connaught wins business worth over £10m

20 May 2009

Connaught Environmental continued its great start to 2009 with the announcement of more new business worth over £10M across three local authorities.

The contract wins confirm the Environmental team’s growing status in the sector and each award was made as a direct result not just of the experience Connaught could demonstrate but also the professional approach of the team and its understanding of the customer’s requirements.

The biggest piece of business is a £1m a year contract over six years to undertake the Grounds Maintenance (grass cutting, shrub bed maintenance, annual bedding and improvement works) at Wandsworth Housing sites on behalf of Wandsworth Borough Council in London. Connaught currently delivers street cleaning services to Wandsworth and estate cleaning to the Wandsworth Housing sites. With Connaught’s increased presence on these sites as it begins the grounds maintenance as well, the co-ordinated service will deliver a better place to live for residents, who will feel more secure in a clean, safe and well-maintained environment.

For Warwickshire County Council, Connaught will be providing grounds maintenance services at 200 individual schools across the county and other council premises – mainly libraries and social services sites. This will include grass cutting, shrub bed maintenance, summer and winter bedding, sports pitch maintenance and marking and athletics facilities maintenance. The contract is worth around £700K a year over five years and builds upon Connaught’s grounds maintenance portfolio but in particular its success with regards to sports surface maintenance currently performed for Hillingdon Borough and Rochford District Councils.

Connaught is also creating a name for itself in toilet cleaning. It has won a £1m contract to clean the public conveniences of Tendring District Council, which builds on Connaught’s award winning portfolio of toilet cleaning services in high foot fall tourist locations such as Dover, Thanet, North Somerset and the Isle of Wight.

Across all three contracts around 50 employees will TUPE across to Connaught and all the teams will receive new uniforms, machinery, equipment and vehicles all decked out in the respective joint livery of the councils and Connaught where ever appropriate.

Darren Frost, managing director of Connaught Environmental said:
“These contracts each build on Connaught’s reputation for excellence in grounds maintenance and toilet cleaning, but also show that we are not just good at the core job, but that our people understand the detail involved in delivering services to the council tax paying public. It is important that our team recognises the importance of the small things about the day to day job and feel motivated and empowered to go further. That’s why we make sure the teams start with the best equipment and feel the part. It is fantastic that our clients, Tendring, Warwick and Wandsworth all commented on our professional approach. Well done to all the teams.”

Connaught, a FTSE250 plc with a turnover in excess of £500M for integrated services provider operating in the social housing, public sector and compliance markets.  Connaught Environmental is a specialist operation within the Connaught Group working in the local authority, social housing and transport & infrastructure sectors providing a range of services to ensure customers’ employees and the public enjoy a safer, cleaner and greener environment.
