PFM Award for Stratgic Property and Outsourcing

20 May 2009

A new category in the PFM Awards 2009 is for Strategic Property Outsourcing in the public and private sectors, embracing both outsourced property and FM partnerships that take on property risk and long term management of facilities. Entries close at the end of May.

Formerly, the PFM Awards featured a PFI/PPP category but in recognition of the broader range of strategic property and FM structures that have become more commonplace in both the public and pirvate sectors this has been dropped in favour of the Strategic Property and Outsourcing Award and new categories for FM in the Public Sector.

The previous category for Partners in Public Services has been reorganised to three categories - Partners in Healthcare FM, Partners in Education FM and Partners in Public Access Facilities. The category review recognised that these three sectors have demonstrated significant growth in recent years and innovative practice in delivering critical FM services. Healthcare, Education and Public Access Facilities are, of course, not found exclusively in the public sector, and entries from private sector organisations in these sectors are also welcome.

Among the other new Awards is one for ‘Lifetime Achievement in FM’. This will recognise people who have been working at a strategic level at the leading edge of FM practice and contributed to the development of the industry and profession.

Among the new categories is Partners in FM - SME organisations, designed for those partnerships where the client and/or FM provider is a small organisation as defined by the EU (Employs less than 250 people, annual turnover is not over €50m and/or annual balance sheet total is not over €43m). This will ensure that it is not just the biggest and best resourced FM organisations that have a chance to win PFM Awards. For FM in larger private sector organisations there is the new Award, Partners in FM – corporate

The Partners in Sustainability Award which has recognized a number of excellent and pioneering partnerships over a number of years, has been abolished. As PFM Editor Jane Fenwick explains, “In recent years - and the last year in particular - ‘sustainability’ was demonstrated in almost all the entries. This reflects the growth in ‘environmental’ issues for FMs from energy management to local sourcing of food. Sustainability is now synonymous with best practice in FM and, therefore, we decided that rather than have a separate Award for Sustainability, it should be a key element of each entry on a par with the existing judging criteria - Partnership, Innovation and Achievement. Therefore Sustainability will from this year be the fourth judging criteria reflecting the important role FM’s play in tackling climate change issues arising from commercial built environment. Additionally a new category Partners in Corporate Social Responsibility has been introduced to recognise the role that FMs play in delivering CSR objectives.”
