MBA launched in International Real Estate and Facility Management

22 April 2009

The Academy of Facility Management of NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences and Austria’s Hochschule Kufstein, is planning a Master’s program that will offer the opportunity to work intensively with international professionals and academics for 15 months in order to experience the global interplay of forces within FM .

‘What’s unique about the new MBA program is the combination of real estate and facility management,’ says Thomas Madritsch, director of Facility and Real Estate Management Studies at Hochschule Kufstein, ‘In my opinion, facility managers have to know more about real estate, and real estate managers have to know more about facility management. Real estate management is profit-oriented, whereas the facility manager is a service provider whose aim it is to create the most optimal work environment.’

‘What makes this Master’s program also special, says René Hermans, dean of the Academy of Facility Management of NHTV, is that universities in the United States, Asia and Europe are co-operating branches, enabling students to learn about different cultures and companies and to build up their own international network. Furthermore, this program focuses on strategic issues such as internationalization, innovation and sustainability.

Supporting international organizations and companies
Important international organizations such as the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and European Facility Management Network (EuroFM) and companies such as Philips and Shell are both enthusiastic and impressed by the initiative taken in starting this Master’s program. They underscore the importance of international education in the field of facility management.
