Tour & Andersson, the leading manufacturer of hydronic balancing valves, has recently installed its TA-H.U.B® (Hydronic User-friendly Balancing) system in a new 11-storey office building in Brisbane, Australia, where it has helped reduce the installation and commissioning time of valves in the building’s waterborne heating and cooling system.

The TA-H.U.B. is a bespoke system comprising a pre-insulated galvanised steel and aluminium unit. Within this is room for up to eight terminal units, complete with drain point, air vent, common measuring point and a flushing bypass.

To meet the requirements of the 11-storey office building in Brisbane, the TA-H.U.B system was installed with STAP differential pressure controls to monitor and control the interaction between valves on all floors, to maintain a constant pressure and flow of water around the HVAC system. The controls also allows the chilled beam circuits to work independently of each other meaning the system can be extended or converted in the future, without having to re-balance any part of it, and is unaffected by fluctuations in use on other floors of the building.

The TA-H.U.B technology was also specified with TBV-CM combined control and balancing valves, so that the flow of water to the chilled beams could be set and controlled by its periodical modulation, depending on temperature, ensuring the design flow is maintained.

Tour & Andersson’s TBV-CM modulating control valves allow specifiers to opt for variable flow HVAC systems. The valves combine control, balancing and measurement qualities, which can save on both cost and time when specifying a multiple valve installation.

Roger Briggs from Webb Australia Consultant Engineers specified the TA-H.U.B system to save on hardware costs, installation time and provide long-term maintenance savings.

By bundling hydronic balancing hardware into one unit specifying the TA-H.U.B. can reduce the overall cost of a waterborne system. Cost savings are not only related to labour and time spent on installation but also commissioning. The simplified fitting and commissioning of the TA-H.U.B. means that mechanical contractors spend less time on the job, delivering lower labour costs and helping main contractors to avoid time penalties across a construction project.

Webb Australia supplied Tour & Andersson with mechanical drawings detailing the proposed positions of the chilled beams. With help from Tour & Andersson’s Engineering Support Centre, a bespoke system was designed and installed that would service the needs of the building effectively.
