Harrow Green completes £13million health centre move

11 March 2009

After four years in the planning, the £13 million flagship health centre in Charnwood, Leicester, is now fully operational. Harrow Green was contracted to manage the relocation of health and social care services for 13 departments previously located over nine other sites.

“Our priority was to plan the move with the least possible disruption to existing health care services,” said David Russell, who led the Harrow Green relocation project. “Those services included GP practices, district nursing, midwifery, dentistry and mental health care – all critical to community wellbeing.”

The phased move involved relocating people, equipment, furniture, IT and records, requiring more than a thousand crates. Harrow Green managed the planning and logistics in partnership with the client project manager. The building was brand new, and extra care needed to be planned for to protect the flooring, walls and lifts to ensure that services would open immaculately.

Kishor Patel, Building Commissioning Manager for NHS Leicester City, commented on the partnership with Harrow Green: “We had to move several agencies and organisations over a short timescale. It was important that the general practice surgery move was done in one day so they could open for business the next day. Harrow Green has given us an excellent service. They are experienced and knowledgeable and provided valuable input to what we wanted to achieve, working in partnership with us to find the best way of doing things.”

Harrow Green is the preferred supplier to NHS Leicester City, but the contract award was subject to competitive quotation.
