Port@l bucks the property slump

25 February 2009

In the face of a commerical property downturn and a evidence that business are reducing occupied space and costs, Port@l has reported a 50% growth in supplying innovative 'occupier solutions' to its clients.

Space and infrastructure solutions provider, Port@l has achieved growth of 50% in the last 12 months, increasing its operational capacity to in excess of 2,500 workstations. During this expansion the company has provided a new 400 seat facility for Vanquis Bank (part of Provident Financial) in Chatham, a fully managed, 16,000 sq ft property for BSkyB in Leeds, as well as acquiring two landmark properties in Coventry, Leamington House and Portal House, that will be refurbished and delivered to a household name to provide high quality affordable managed offices on flexible terms.

With significant blue chip contracts underway, Port@l attributes its success to the launch of ‘Occupier Solutions’ an innovative approach to property provision that enables companies to acquire accommodation that fits their immediate and future needs, on an operational rather than lease basis.

Managing Director at Port@l John Gotley, comments, “The property market is going through a challenging time, however the growth we have realised in our business is a strong endorsement that our flexible ‘Occupier Solutions’ approach to property provision can provide our clients with solutions that are immune to economic fluctuations. Corporate decision makers in today’s dynamic market are beginning to realise that it is the companies that have the agility to accommodate change quickly and effectively that will survive and thrive. They have recognised that the traditional methods of property acquisition, either through long-term lease or capital build are fraught with risk and, worse still in a slow market, result in stagnation, both in their property portfolio and in their business planning.”

He continues, “These conditions were paramount in both Vanquis Bank and BSkyB selecting our ‘Occupier Solutions’ route for their new operations. Our solution provided them with the flexibility they needed to expand their capacity at a time of their choosing rather than that dictated by the landlord or any other external consideration.”

Gotley concludes, “Port@l’s outlook in the property market remains positive and we are expecting our growth to continue over the next 12 months with further strategic investments across the UK’

Established in 2000 Port@l’s core offering is space and infrastructure (environment, IT and telephony) on a managed service basis. Port@l term this ‘Occupier Solutions’ and it allows their clients to retain ownership of their “crown jewels” such as brand custodianship, culture, people, processes, intellectual capital, business applications and, in the case of call centres, the actual interaction with customers.
