Zurich outsources document processing across Europe

12 January 2009

MailSource UK’s parent company, Swiss Post, has been awarded a contract by Zurich Financial Services Group (Zurich) to deliver and manage Zurich’s document processing services in six of its European operations, including the UK.

Swiss Post will be responsible for Zurich’s in-coming and outgoing post, international intra-company mail and the scanning, processing and archiving of around 400,000 documents daily in Europe. MailSource UK will take over responsibility for Zurich’s document services in the UK in the first quarter of 2009.

As one of the largest transformation projects of its kind in terms of scale and solution, the award of this agreement reinforces Swiss Post’s position as one of the market leaders for physical and digital mailroom and document processing services in the European market, both up- and downstream from its core letters business.

Swiss Post will take over responsibility for Zurich’s document services in the UK, Switzerland Germany, Italy, Spain and Austria in phases. Zurich employees working in the document management area will transfer to Swiss Post. Under the agreement Swiss Post will be processing around 240,000 items of post and scanning 150,000 documents daily on behalf of the Gen-eral, Life and Corporate business segments of Zurich.

Commenting on the award of the agreement, Claudia Dill, Chief Operating Officer, Zurich Europe General Insurance, said: “The initiative is part of our operational transformation efforts to make Zurich an even leaner organisa-tion. Applying consistent state-of-the-art technologies across borders will streamline and speed up our internal processes which will help us to better serve our customers.”

For several years Swiss Post has been working to counter deregulation of the postal markets with a targeted growth strategy in niche markets abroad, in order to be able to provide its clients with services and solutions that lever-age the value of their corporate information.

“We are delighted to partner Zurich in this exciting initiative. We look forward to working with Zurich as an internationally based organisation and assisting them in achieving their goals and demonstrating our ability to deliver a mar-ket leading service in document lifecycle management by being able to man-age physical and digital documents in a truly integrated process”, said Frank Marthaler, Board Member at Swiss Post.

Well-established provider in document management, Swiss Post Solutions at present employs around 4000 people in its business unit Document Solutions. With its headquarters in Switzerland, Swiss Post Solutions has operations in the United Kingdom, currently trading as Mail-Source UK Ltd and in Greater New York, where Swiss Post Solutions is one of the leading providers in the document management business. In addition Swiss Post is already present in Germany, France and Italy. The strength of Swiss Post Solutions in this business is in its integrated product range con-sisting of physical and digital document management services and due to its presence in Europe’s most important markets and in the USA, Swiss Post is an attractive outsourcing partner for both national and international companies.
