FMA welcomes Chris Hoar as new Director General

12 January 2009

The FMA has appointed Chris Hoar as Director General to the FMA (Facilities Management Association). He takes over from this month from Maurice Tidy who has occupied the role since 2004.

With nearly 50 members from the Facilities Management Sector the membership represents more than 500,000 employees with a combined turnover exceeding £5.5bn.

Chris Hoar has over 30 years in manufacturing, construction and service provision with an established track record in sales and marketing. Previously employed by Compass Group, Société Générale d'Entreprises and Saint - Gorbain he looks forward to taking the FMA on to its next stage of development through increased membership and representation.

Part of his remit is a role at the CBI’s Trade Association Council where he will continue to give the Service Sector view for representation to government in the UK and EU.

Chris Hoar says, “I am delighted to be working for the member companies particularly at this challenging period in the UK’s economy and I look forward to furthering the Association’s impact there. This is a tough period in the world economy and for the UK but I have great optimism in the durability of companies working in the FM sector.”

The members operate in the private and public sectors and have a presence in commerce, retail, manufacturing, transport, healthcare and education. The membership profile is eclectic and includes plc’s, SME’s and is thus most reflective of the wide range of organisations which operate in the sector.

FMA elected Chairman Richard Sykes expressed his pleasure at the prospect of working with Chris and commended Maurice Tidy for the dedication he has shown to the Association over the past years.
Richard Sykes says, “On behalf of all our members we thank Maurice Tidy for his enthusiasm and dedication to the FMA over the past 5 years. His representation of the FM Industry has bought enormous benefits to our membership. We are looking forward to working with Chris and are confident that he will continue the excellent work to date in ensuring our Industry receives the recognition and representation it deserves.”
