Housing repairs in Dundee

Carillion Property Services (CPS) has been awarded a contract by Abertay Housing Association to provide services to its properties in the Dundee area.

The £1 million, 19-month contract – with the potential for a four year extension – started in September and includes reactive repairs, out of hours emergencies and empty property maintenance.

Abertay Housing Association provides quality housing management and maintenance services to around 1,800 tenants in social rented accommodation in the Dundee area of which 300 are sheltered housing. Abertay works to maintain and improve the standard of tenants’ homes and focuses on giving its customers value for money.

The contract was priced in a schedule of rates basis which has been converted to a partnership arrangement including a fixed fee per house cost based on historical maintenance spend and a commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Abertay is the first Registered Social Landlord (RSL) within the Dundee area to enter into a partnership arrangement and both organisations are focussed on its success which will ultimately increase tenant satisfaction.

CPS regional director John Boyd said: “Having an established operational base within the Fintry area of Dundee, CPS recognised this opportunity as a key contract to allow us to build on our status as a local employer and provide long-term, sustainable growth for the business. Our experience and knowledge of maintaining RSL stock in Dundee, and indeed nationally, will ensure the tenants of Abertay receive and efficient and professional service delivery.

Ron McArthur, Abertay Housing Association’s Technical Services Director said: “This arrangement with Carillion Property Services is the culmination of almost 18 months research and tendering activities. However, in effect it is only the start of our journey with CPS. We are keen to provide not just a basic repairs and maintenance service to our tenants, but one which is streamlined and comprehensive, delivered when tenants need it, with incentives to drive efficiencies and ultimately offer further benefit to our customers.”

Carillion Property Services (CPS) provides fabric maintenance services, property refurbishment and fit-out to commercial market, local authorities, registered social landlords and property and facilities managers across all sectors. It was formed in August 2007 to strengthen Carillion’s integrated capabilities to customers.
