FM change at NW London NHS Trust

10 October 2008

GSL, part of G4S Integrated Services, has won the FM contract to provide an integrated range of support services to the North West London Hospitals NHS Trust.

The contract covers the Trust's sites at Northwick Park & St Mark’s Hospitals in Harrow and the Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal. The contract starts in November 2008 and will run for an initial period of five years.

GSL will directly employ around 530 employees to provide a comprehensive range of FM support services, including cleaning, catering, environmental/waste management, reception, security, portering and post room. GSL won the contract following a competitive EU tender process, following on from a number of separate contracts coming to an end and the issue of improved specifications from the Department of Health for cleaning and infection control. GSL will replace two existing facilities management providers and an in-house team who together currently provide the services at the two acute hospitals. Existing staff will be given the opportunity to transfer across to GSL under TUPE legislation, and additional staff may be hired to strengthen key service areas.

G4S Integrated Services, part of G4S plc the world’s largest security solutions group, specialises in providing facilities management at security-conscious workplaces including Government agencies, prisons, hospitals and schools across the UK. It already provides facilities management services at 200 community health care locations, and hospitals in London and the south east, including the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, as well as other Government and commercial facilities.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this contract by the North West London Hospitals NHS Trust, which requires us to provide a comprehensive and tightly managed service to underpin the important and high quality clinical care they deliver” states David Allen, Bid Director G4S Integrated Services. We have a strong reputation for facilities management in the healthcare environment and we look forward to demonstrating the value of our services to the Trust and its customers in the coming years.”

Philip Sutcliffe, Director of Corporate Services at the North West London Hospitals NHS Trust commented: “GSL won the competitive tender by demonstrating a thorough appreciation of our needs and a successful track record for managing similar facilities and related services in the NHS. The Trust is investing significant extra funds to improve standards, especially in cleaning and catering services, which are really important to the patients we care for. We are looking forward to working closely with GSL to deliver these improved standards to our community.”
