G4S to support the Food Standards Agency

08 September 2008

G4S Integrated Services, has won a landmark contract to provide a range of support services for the Food Standard Agency’s London HQ. The contract starts this month and will run for a minimum of five years, with the option to extend it until 2015.

G4S Integrated Services (G4S IS) will directly employ around 30 employees to provide a comprehensive range of FM support services within the 12,000sq m Aviation House offices in Holborn. These services will include: helpdesk, cleaning, catering, environmental/waste management services, reception staff, office security, portering, post room, reprographics and handyman services. G4S IS won the contract following a competitive tender and will replace three existing FM providers who have split services at Aviation House between them.

Existing FM staff at the building will be given the opportunity to transfer across to G4S under TUPE guidelines while additional staff may be hired to strengthen key service areas.

G4S IS, already provides FM services at GCHQ in Cheltenham, The Met Office in Exeter and to a number of Primary Care Trusts, schools and other Government and commercial facilities across the UK.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this contract by the Food Standards Agency, which requires us to provide a comprehensive and tightly managed service to underpin the important work done by the Food Standards Agency,” states Paul Cottam, Director G4S Integrated Services. “We have a strong reputation for facilities management and we look forward to demonstrating the value of our services to the Food Standard’s Agency in the coming years.”

Mike McElwee, Chief Information Officer & Head of IT & FM Division at the Food Standards Agency commented: “G4S IS won the competitive tender by demonstrating a thorough understanding of our needs and a successful track record for managing similar high profile and secure office facilities. Clearly information security and the secure management of the actual building are critical to the work we do and we are confident that they will deliver an effective service.”
